MUSE | Léa Seydoux

Parisian girls just do it better, and Léa is definitely hitting the high notes. At 28 she has been in the acting game for a while with her 'don't give a f*$%k' attitude giving just the right amount of allure and mystery. The fact she is not afraid to play very different characters confirms she won't be type cast any time soon. Watch her play the muse of Yves Saint Laurent Loulou de la Falasie,  in the 'other' unapproved bio pic, Saint Laurent, scheduled for released in October this year.

READ | The Travel Almanac

One of our favourite reads. Simple, beautiful, clean and concise in design; The Travel Almanac is more of a book then magazine as its timeless content deserves to be preserved on the book shelf for future reads.

Aimed at a generation of sophisticated travellers within the creative community, The Travel Almanac is a NY/Berlin publication available bi-annually. With interviews at its core, Editor Paul Kominek had this to say about the content philosophy in an interview with Stack Magazines

"Lets just speak to people that we love - cultural icons who are really interesting - but let's talk to them about subjects they aren't asked about constantly. This is why our interviews with those well-known personalities usually are much more personal and intimate than the average interview. Travelling habits and experiences say a lot about a person and are at the same time very universal and thus make for a great way to break the ice in a conversation."

With the current roll call of cover stars like David Lynch, Matthew Barney, Willem Dafoe, & Harmony Korine is great to see Gia Coppola take center stage for Issue 7. Be sure to pre-order the new issue now for shipping on the 5th of May

ART | Philographics

Philographics merges the world of philosophy with beautiful design and is the creation of graphic designer Genis Carreras. Originally started as a kickstarter campaign, it explains big ideas with simple, striking shapes and colours.

FINALISM -The assertion that any event is defined by a pre-set final outcome, and that all events leading up to that outcome are shaped by it.

ABSOLUTISM - The position that within a particular school of thought, all different perspectives are either absolutely true or absolutely false

HEDONISM - The ethical position that pleasure is the ultimate and greatest good, and should be the central aim of all decisions made.

RELATIVISM - The assertion that no belief can be said to have absolute truth, having value only within a certain contact or frame of reference

BENAH LOVES | William O'Brien Jr.

Award-winning American architect William O’Brien Jr. has designed two single-storey holiday houses located in upstate New York, now affectionately dubbed the Twin Houses, owned now by two brothers and their families. It is by way of obsessive geometry that these minimalist structures were realized. While one is a regular six-sided polygon and the other is a four-sided polygon, each building is composed from the same five forms: four trapezoids and one triangle. Heavy stuff, eh? Well, stay with us, because it’s about to get even more complicated…

According to a press release about the site, “the mathematical principle of ‘dissection’ states that any two regular polygons with equal areas can be divided into sets of similar shapes; “minimal dissection” is the pursuit of the fewest number of subdivisions in each polygon. This scheme appropriates this principle as a solution to (1) general similarities in the programmatic requirements, and (2) distinctions in the desired relationships to the site, voiced by the two brothers for each of their homes.

Now, mathematics aside, these deeply considered and meticulously planned buildings are a sight for the eyes (if not the brain also). And, as these gorgeous images by Peter Guthrie reveal, although of the stark minimalist variety and not to mention a sharp black, these twin structures provide both a jarring contrast to the rugged terrain that holds them, as well as a adding a certain poetry to the landscape. A match made in heaven.

ART | Amalia Pica

We are always going to celebrate strong, dedicated women with a clear vision, and Argentinian artist, Amalia Pica fits this description to a tee. Born in Argentina and based in London, Pica often explores notions of communication and metaphor through her diverse range of work. In 2013, the MCA of Chicago exhibited the artist’s first major solo show in the United States, which included fifteen of her most significant work in addition to new and exciting commissions. Using deceptively simple materials such as photocopies, light bulbs, glasses, and bottles and cardboard, Pica creates work that is both formally beautiful and conceptually robust. She considers the connections between the sending of human messages and the making of an artwork, and the often-childish desire to be understood. In her eyes, the fact that we strive for sympathy (even if our good intentions are misconstrued) is a beautiful thing.
